How can I backup my email (to a local pst file)?

Create an email backup .pst file.

  1. Launch Outlook then follow the wizard pictured below.

Highlight "Export to a File" then click Next.

Highlight "Personal Folder File (.pst)" then click next.

Make sure you highlight the actual mailbox that you wish to backup then check "Include Subfolders". This will backup every item in your mailbox. Then click Next.

The default directory that your backup .pst file will be saved to is c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\applications data\Microsoft\outlook\backup.pst. If you so desire you can browse to any directory you wish to save this backup file to.

Just take the default on this window and click OK.

You will see a window, like the one above, while it is exporting your mailbox to the backup .pst file.
