CHECSNet --

The New Mexico Council for Higher Education Computing and Communication Services, CHECS, is a not-for-profit corporation in New Mexico whose members are professionals from the computing services divisions in every institution of higher education within New Mexico. Affiliate membership (non-voting) is given to other not-for-profit institutions. Nearly 40 institutions participate in CHECS functions.

The organization conducts one annual conference, with published proceedings, as well as several planning meetings. It also establishes communications among its members, especially with regard to the directions published throughout the state by CHECS on the support and direction for computing technology in New Mexico higher education. CHECS also operates its intrastate network, CHECS-NET, which uses high-speed connections between the institutions and to the Internet. CHECS-NET is New Mexico's Higher Education Intranet providing high-speed connections to the Internet and Internet2.

Funding for CHECS-NET comes from both state and federal sources and operates on a non-profit basis. Since it is a government-supported network established for educational and research purposes, restrictions apply to terms of service that do not apply to for-profit commercial Internet providers. See the authorized use policy and terms of service for further information on the restrictions.
