Is there some way to delete directly from the Sent Items folder without having to get rid of the messages from the Deleted Items folder?

From Topica's tip of the day for Outlook 2000 for 8/31/2000

To trash old email messages directly from any folder--rather than sending them to Deleted Items and then deleting them again--simply hold down the Shift key while you press Delete.
