I have been told I should change my password every month for security purposes. What is the correct procedure?

It may seem needless at first for so many passwords at this stage of computing at NMMI. For every function, we seem to have yet another password. Granted, we know it's all for the security of the system. Information Services is attempting to synchronize as many of the needed passwords as possible.

Windows provides us secure access to various applications on a personal computer and to the print queues. It allows us to pop our email to our own personal computer in the office.

To prevent users having different passwords, IS can synchonize the password on different applications, allowing you one password to access everything with basically one password change.

For security purposes, passwords should be changed every 30 days.

To Change Your Password

  1. Begin by logging into Windows (control + alt + delete), and enter your USER NAME and old password or if you are locked out, the password provided by Information Services.

  2. The system will then require you to enter a new password that only you know. Enter a password that is six or more characters long and hasn't been used in the last 12 months. Enter it again to verify it.
