RENAME A DATABASE

--by Susan Sales Harkins

You can easily rename an Access database file without launching the Windows Explorer, but not while the database file is open. When you need to rename a database file, follow these simple steps.

First close the file. Next, select File, Open Database. Locate the file in the resulting Open dialog box and right-click it. Select Rename from the pop-up menu, and type the name you want to give the database file. Finally, press Enter.

One word of caution when using this method: Watch for linked objects. Access won't automatically update links. After renaming a database, open it and relink your objects by choosing Tools, Add-Ins, Linked Table Manager to update any links.
