The latest versions of Word drive me crazy when selecting a large selection of data. When you past the end of a page, it shoots forward or reverse depending on the direction I am selecting. What am I doing wrong?

It is very frustrating when you try to select the text with the mouse past the bottom of the currently visible page and Word leaps past what you wanted to select. Use Shift plus the arrow key instead of using the mouse.
