How do I change the default font when I use Word?
Moderator: compserv@nmmi.edu (inherited from parent)

The default font for Word is defined in the Normal style of the global template (Normal.dot). Word uses the Normal.dot template as default if you do not specify another template. If you do not have a document open in Word, you must create a new document based on the Normal template. To change the style of the default font, do the following steps:

  • Open a New document in MS Word.
  • On the Format menu, click Font. (Format | Font)
  • Select the font, point size, and any attributes that you want the font to have.
  • Click the Default button at the bottom, left hand side of the dialog box.
  • When you are questioned whether or not you wish to save the specific changes you have made, click Yes.
  • Exit from MS Word, answering No to save changes. This is referring to the empty document. You don't need to save it.
  • Open a new document in MS Word again to verify that your changes exist. If not, start at the top of this list again and repeat instructions.
