How may I get rid of the pop-up ads in Internet Explorer

You need to turn off Messenger Service. Click Start, Settings (Win2000), Control Panel and double-click Administrative Tools. Double-click Services, double-click Messenger and under Service Status, click Stop. In the box next to Startup Type, select Disabled. Click Apply and OK.
