NMMI's BISNet (Brown Information Systems Network) has a fast Ethernet backbone with gigabit links between major hubs. The network is a switched Ethernet design with the capability of virtual LANs. NMMI joined the Internet in 1995 and has moved to TCP/IP as the campus standard protocol. A firewall has been in place since 1999.
