What is the naming convention for the NMMI servers? |

NMMI ServersMany college sites name their servers using Disney characters, planets, cartoon characters, etc. Several years ago, Information Services' staff began naming the NMMI servers after bears. YOGI, SMOKEY, BOOBOO, TEDDY and POOH were the original members of the old Digital VMS cluster beginning in 1992. PADDY, FOZZY, KODIAK, PANDA and POLAR were our NT servers and upgraded to Windows 2000 servers by 2002. GUMMI joined his fellow bears as a Linux server. The VAX cluster of bears was retired in the Fall of 2003. Taking the place of the retired servers were POOH II, PAPA, MAMA and BABY. Two non-bears were added during the conversion of the library system (NMMIPROD and NMMITRAIN) about that same time period. GRIZZLY was added in the Fall 2003. YOGI has been reincarnated as a Windows 2003 Server. SMOKEY (soon to be Windows 2003 Server) will be reincarnated as Polar's replacement. Kodiak and Fozzy have been retired and are used for R&D. Cisco-CM is a Windows 2000 Server. Servers that have come on site in the Fall of 2006 are named BLACK, BROWN, BLUE and BOOBOO II. BOOBOO II is the Squid Proxy server.
