Is AOL Instant Messenger allowed?

AOL/IM is allowed through the firewall, but you don't have to set it up for one. Just install it normally. Other messenger programs will work, but some will not. ICQ doesn't like our firewall, but MSN and Yahoo do not seem to have a problem.

As far as our policies go on it, it doesn't take up much bandwidth, but does have the capability to. Per Bill Siders, Director of Information Services, "We are allowing it at this time, but as with anything else, we do ask that it is used in moderation. If bandwidth becomes a problem we will have to shut it down. If cadets abuse it we will have to shut it down as well."
